Having devoted the last few years’ tours to mainly my rock related music with my band, this next tour is a completely new departure for me and will be quite different in many aspects. The INTERSTELLAR SKY GUITAR TOUR is going to be unlike any other tour I’ve ever done regarding the choice of music and the format.
It is true that for years I have largely neglected my more classical repertoire and the Sky of Avalon/ Transcendental Sky Guitar music on stage. But quite a few among my audience have asked me repeatedly to play this kind of music again. Well here it is. This tour will be completely dedicated to my “other musical half” – the world of melodic and dramatic orchestral pieces, my personal favourite world of music. This framework will give me the opportunity to do many new things which I couldn’t possibly do in a band context and I’m really looking forward to this artistic challenge!
I’d like to invite all of you who have an ear for this kind of music to come and join me in these shows as my audience so we can go on a journey together. Don’t worry, I won’t be totally alone on stage with just my guitars and the piano, but we will have three screens, which will help to tell the story in terms of visuals, most of which I have produced myself especially for this tour.
All venues will be mainly seated so that you can just sit back, relax and immerse yourself in the music. These are not rock-shows, but it is going to be¬ more of an intense listening experience and a bit of a mind trip so-to-speak.
The concert will consist of two halves and there will be a brief intermission between the two.
I have prepared an eclectic mix of music for this and it contains some of my all-time classical favourites in the first half. Pieces by Mozart, Bach, Puccini - which I am interpreting a la “Transcendental Sky Guitar” - and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, a piece which I love to play, because it is most exciting and a challenge, followed by my Metamorphosis Concerto. The second half will be dedicated to mainly my own pieces and it will include a couple of Electric Sun and Scorpions tracks with orchestra backings.
Prepare yourself for a different kind of sound! Not better – just different! I have also written several new melodic pieces recently for my 9-string Flamenco Sky Guitar as well as new electric ones, some of which I will perform on the tour, and I will improvise some keyboards for you as well.
This summer I also wrote a completely new 12 minute big Orchestra Arrangement of Sails of Charon in full score, which we will include in the program. This one is extremely exciting to play and I can’t wait to share it with you guys!
