About this event

Rhythm Changes & Music Declares are joining forces for a new series of conversation. Through our bimonthly talks, we'll be exploring how we can increase the accessibility and sustainability of the arts with real-life action points.   Our first talk on the 9th February at The Social, will ask the question: 'How do we support artists to make ethical and decisions in an industry stacked against them?' For this panel, we'll be joined by Phoebe Lunny, Keith Miller, John Rostron & Kwake Bass. Here's a little more info on each:    Phoebe Lunny is the front woman of punk band Lambrini Girls. She stands at the forefront of musicians who repeatedly demand justice across politics, gender, class and so much more. Phoebe is an incredibly inspiring speaker and we are very lucky to host her on a rare occasion when she isn't touring (a matter which will be discussed).    Keith Miller is the co-owner and founder of LNZRT WRKS, Bad Vibrations and Wide Awake Festival. After a summer of fighting against park gentrification and headliner-related court cases, Keith is now deep in the battle against gentrifying planning permissions that would shut down Moth Club. A true pioneer of independent music and counterculture, Keith is a leader within London's music community.    John Rostron is the Chief Executive of the Association of Independent Festivals, the UK's festival representative body.AIF membership has grown rapidly in recent years and now supports 150 leading independent music festivals in the UK including Notting Hill Carnival, Boardmasters, and End Of the Road. He is currently occupied with a governmental inquisition into Live Nation's unlawful anti-competitive behaviour.   Giles Kwakeulati King-Ashong Known as Kwake Bass-is from Lewisham South London. He is the musical director for both Sampha and Kate Tempest's latest tours and has played with the likes of Lianne La Havas, Mica Levi, Joey Bada$$, MF Doom, Roots Manuva, Shabaka Huthcings and Novelist. As a producer he explores what lives between the cracks of structured programming with live electronic improvisation.   We'll be operating a sliding scale ticket scheme with tickets starting at £4 for folks unwaged. Tickets in bio & via The Social's website.
